Harvard on the Web
New Website 'U4U' Connects Students from Boston's Largest Colleges
Looking for a party to go to this weekend? How about a study group for your upcoming midterm or a place to sell your old books?
Earth Day Video Released
Akshay M. Sharma '14, a representative of the resource efficiency program, unleashed the YouTube video "Turn off the Lights" yesterday in honor of Earth Day 2011.
Putting Mental Health on the Map at Harvard
They're outside the Science Center with their signs, their cheer, and their smiles. They're the Student Mental Heath Liaisons.
The Apprentice, Harvard Style
As senior spring nears an end, many set to graduate at the end of the semester are accepting that the fun of college is coming to a close and choosing a path of consulting or banking. A new tumblr created by Jessica S. Lin '09, a former Crimson editor, W. Hugo Van Vuuren '07, and Mark D. Khanin '12, an inactive Crimson business editor, suggests that, on the contrary, jobs should be found elsewhere.
More Videos as Housing Day Approaches
Housing Day is quickly approaching, which means that Houses have been quickly releasing videos in the final days to make a positive impression on freshmen.
Measuring Harvard's Energy Consumption
CS50 is an undergraduate class whose final projects dramatically impact Harvard student life. Although students produce most CS50 projects, course instructor David J. Malan '99 regularly contributes projects of his own design that benefit Harvard students, including HarvardCourses, Shuttleboy, and, most recently, HarvardEnergy.
'African-American Swan'
Right in time for Natalie Portman's Oscar victory on Sunday came what many of us have been waiting for: a "Black Swan" that's a little lighter. Last week, Insanitas—Harvard's newest sketch comedy group—dropped "African-American Swan," a three-minute "Black Swan" parody.
Housing Day Videos Get Personal
The housing day videos released thus far have been fairly tame in the sense that they haven't singled out their rival Houses for ridicule. Currier and Pforzheimer, however, are stepping up their campaigns with new videos that not only claim they are the best, but that other Houses are the worst.
Housing Day is Pfunny and Feels Good
With housing day less than a month away, two more Houses are using the internet as a means to demonstrate their feelings of superiority over their eleven counterparts. Several days ago, we saw Hollywood-inspired videos from Dunster and Quincy. Now, Leverett has released a video, Pforzheimer has created a blog, and Quincy followed up its "Quinception" teaser with the full-length video.
God Bless 'Merica
Have you ever had the urge to shout from the rooftops your undying love for the United States? We can't help you with the rooftops, however, but thanks to the new website "God Bless 'Merica," created by Adams House resident Justin R. Butler '11, you can come pretty close. Butler combined his web design hobby with inside jokes between him and his friends into a blog that allows people to share why they love 'Merica.
Housing Day Approaches, Hollywood-Style
Although freshmen will not learn their housing assignments until March 10, Dunster and Quincy have already created teasers based on two of this past year's most popular movies, "The Social Network" and "Inception."
A Monkey, a Banana, and a Bit of Violence
The Graduate School of Education might want to consider adding animal self-defense to the course catalog. When Anjali Adukia traveled to India to retrieve data for her dissertation at the GSE, she never expected to have her intellectual property (physically) stolen by a furry animal, or by a cute kid in a costume, for that matter. Her escapade was reenacted by the GSE's magazine here.
