There’s a lot to do in New York, and most of it costs an absurd amount of money. But I’m here to tell you that there are free venues where you can have fun and get off the beaten track at the same time. All you need is a metrocard and a sense of adventure.
A Night at the Bowery
On a Tuesday night, I found myself in the Bowery neighborhood of downtown New York. An atypical night of the week to be out and about perhaps, but not, it seems, for the underground-music-loving, tight-denim-wearing set that flocked to the Bowery for a heady dose of indie and art.

Heavy Germanic All-Nighter Playlist
Sorry folks, Spring Break is over. Luckily, the Arts Board is here to help. Successful execution of an all-nighter requires mastery of the myriad emotional states that stress and exhaustion produce—grief, anger, narcissism, joy, transcendence. After careful research, Arts has found that the best tools for dealing with stress are copious volumes of coffee and music from the German classical repertoire. Enjoy.

Boston Celebrates 100 Years of John Cage
Modernist composer John Cage may have passed away in 1992, but his organ composition "Organ2/ASLSP (As SLow aS Possible)" lives on: the current performance of it in Halberstadt, Germany, is slated to finish in 2640. Cage, whose other works incorporated radios, conch shells, and cactuses, enthusiastically broke down almost every existing preconception about what did and did not constitute music. In the process, he paved the way for later experimentation. In order to commemorate the centennial of Cage's birth, musical institutions around Boston are celebrating his daring work with several upcoming concerts.
