Harvard's sailing team is set to kick off its spring season with the Sharpe Trophy regatta this weekend. After a successful fall season with six first-place wins, including the Open Atlantic Coast Championship, the team hopes to continue its momentum through to the upcoming season.
Harvard’s sailing team continued its fleet racing success last weekend, with its two top-four finishes – in the Victoria Urn Trophy and the Schell Trophy – adding to a stellar tally of results over the last three months. The Crimson will hope to carry its momentum into the season-ending Women's Singlehanded National Championships, where it will be represented by sophomore Sophia Montgomery. The regatta will take place in Norfolk, Va., this coming weekend.
A breezy Charles River Basin hosted the NEISA Team Race Championships over the weekend, with an injury-riddled Harvard side overcoming adversity to place second in the 12-team competition.
Harvard’s sailing team earned strong finishes in each of their three team-races this weekend, taking home fourth place at the interconference Marchiando Team Race, fifth place at the Dellenbaugh Trophy (NEISA Women's Team Race Championship), and 13th place in the BU Trophy Fleet Race.
Harvard first-year Sophia Montgomery’s strong performance at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Women's Singlehanded Nationals on Nov. 6-7 rounded out a strong season for the Harvard sailing team this fall. Montgomery finished in fourth place in a field of 18 sailors who raced on the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis, Md., placing ahead of all other freshmen who were racing.
