The Data on Datamatch

20-year-old algorithm matches thousands of undergraduates

Xiao revealed that other colleges have reached out to HCS to duplicate Datamatch.

“There have been people who have asked us to run it at other schools, which we are happy to do,” he said, “as long as they come up with the questions.”

Xiao also said that he would like to expand to other countries, specifically China, increase the number of serious questions, and fund Datamatch dates, much like the UC recently did.

HCS, a student-run organization, is responsible for running all of the Harvard mailing lists and hosts websites for student groups at Harvard.

Xiao said that HCS does not collect data on how many people actually reach out to their matches, but would appreciate hearing from people who have contacted their matches.
