Freshman and Minor Sports Active in Weekend Clashes as Post Mid-year Season Gets Underway

Harvard minor and Freshman teams engaged in eleven week-and contests as the mid-year lay-off ends.

Harvard Swimmers Win From Syracuse 38 to 24

Two Harvard records were broken Saturday afternoon as the University swimming team took every first and second place but two to defeat Syracuse University 38 to 24, gaining the fourth successive victory of its season.

Captain W. S. deLima '31 finished the quarter-mile swim with a time of 5 min., 8 3-5 sec., bettering his former mark of 5 min., 20 sec. In the 200-yard breast stroke swim G. C. Larcom '33 nosed out iverson with a time of 2 min., 47 2-5 sec., clipping 2 3-5 sec. from his previous record.

Syracuse's outstanding performer was Wohl, who finished the 150-yard back stroke with a time of 1 min., 46 sec., three seconds faster than that of White, Brown swimmer, and eight seconds short of the pool record set by Kojac of Rutgers.

The Crimson relay team was disqualified when B. S. Wood '33, winner in the 50-and 100-yard free style swims, started before Timken had slapped the end of the tank.

150-yard back stroke swim--Won by Wohl (S); second, W. J. McTigue, Jr. '33; third, Johnson (S). Time--1 min., 46 sec.

200-yard breast stroke swim--Won by G. C. Larcom '33; second, Iverson (S); third, Freeman (S). Time--2 min., 47 2-5 sec. (New Harvard record.)

100-yard free style swim--Won by B. S. Wood '33; second, Addison Love '33; third, Kehlhof (S). Time--55 1-5 sec.

Relay--Won by Syracuse: Sutherland, Hollis, Balley, Wohl; Harvard disqualified after winning: R. D. Fallon '33, G. F. Hamman '32, W. R. Timken '33, B. S. Wood '33.

Columbia Defeats Wrestlers 20 to 8

The University wrestlers suffered a decisive defeat from the hands of a strong Columbia team on Saturday afternoon in the New Indoor Athletic Building. The Lions won by a score of 20 to 8, and effected Harvard's first defeat this winter.
