Harvard Drops Last Home Contests Against Brown and Yale
Unable to bounce back from its 2-0 loss to Dartmouth last weekend, Harvard (5-20-2, 3-16-1 ECAC) women’s ice hockey lost both games of its double-header to Brown (11-13-3, 7-10-3 ECAC) and No. 14/RV Yale (14-12-1, 11-8-1 ECAC), 3-1 and 3-0, respectively.
Mixed Performance for Women's Hockey against Union and Dartmouth
After suffering tough losses at No. 6 Cornell and No. 3 Colgate this past weekend, the Harvard Crimson (5-17-2) bounced back in New York against the Union Garnet Chargers (8-18-2) with a 3-1 victory on Wednesday night. Following the victory, the Crimson posted a loss to Dartmouth on Saturday, 0-2.

For the first time ever, the Dunkin Women’s Beanpot – a hockey tournament in which Boston powerhouses Harvard, Northeastern, Boston College and Boston University compete in a two-round playoff – was held at TD Garden. The Crimson (4-16-2, 2-12-1 ECAC), fell to Northeastern (17-9-1, 10-7-1 HEA) – who ultimately won the entire event – 1-0 in the first round at home in Bright-Landry Hockey Center.

When the whistle blew at the end of the first period on Saturday, it looked as if Harvard women’s ice hockey (0-3-0, 0-3-0 ECAC) was on the way to its first win of the season. The Crimson lead 3-0 over Rochester Polytechnic Institute (6-1-3, 2-0-0) going into the 2nd period. Led by senior captain Shannon Hollands, who had a goal and assist in the first period, they played aggressive and tactical hockey in the first period. However, the rest of the game was a different story, as the Engineers battled back to force overtime and deliver a 5-4 loss to the hopeful Harvard women.

TD Garden to Host 45th Women’s Beanpot Championship
For the first time in its history, the Women’s Beanpot will be contested in an NHL arena. On March 21, the TD Garden announced that the 45th Dunkin’ Women’s Beanpot Championship will be played at TD Garden, home of the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics, on Jan. 23, 2024.

Even with the two teams trending in opposite directions record-wise, both coaches recognized the heightened importance that comes with a Beanpot match.

Fans at the historic Matthews Arena witnessed an instant classic the last time the Harvard women's ice hockey team (7-14-3, 6-10-3 ECAC) squared off against Boston College (16-12-1, 14-10-0 HEA) in the Beanpot. A game-winner by Becca Gilmore ’22 in the waning minutes of the third period secured a 5-4 victory over the Eagles in the championship game. The Beanpot title was the 15th in program history and the first for the Crimson since 2015.

Harvard Women's Ice Hockey Struggles in Season-Opening Homestand Against Ranked Opponents
After an offseason that saw a lot of roster turnover and the integration of many fresh faces into its lineup, Harvard women’s ice hockey was challenged early in a four-game homestand to open its 2022-23 season. It faced the monumental task of developing team chemistry while simultaneously winning games against quality opponents. Ultimately, the first four games of the season underlined just how much work the Crimson still has to do, as it managed just one victory – a shutout of Dartmouth – while suffering three setbacks, at the hands of Quinnipiac, Yale, and Brown.

Following a historic 2021-22 campaign that featured the first Beanpot title and NCAA tournament berth since 2015, the No. 13/13 Harvard women’s ice hockey team begins the season in the midst of a transition. In addition to the new threads that the Crimson will wear this season, the team will feature many new faces when it kicks off its season at Bright-Landry Hockey Center on Oct. 15 versus Quinnipiac.
