Softball Sweeps Columbia on the Road, Moves into Second in Conference Standings

Despite a sluggish start against out-of-conference opponents, Harvard softball (12-15, 6-3 Ivy) remains in the hunt for the 2022 Ivy League Championship this spring. The team is heating up, most recently with its three-game sweep over Columbia this past weekend, which moved it to second place in the conference standings.

Softball Takes on Spring Break Competition Coast-To-Coast

Ten games, nine days, two coasts, and one Ivy League rivalry later, Harvard softball had a whirlwind of a spring break. Jetting off to California to start a non-stop onslaught of competition, Harvard (8-11, 2-1 Ivy) competed in the UCR/CBU Classic against the University of North Dakota (10-22), California Baptist University (18-16), and Saint Mary’s College (11-10).

Harvard Women’s Rugby Ends 2021 Season With Loss to Army in NIRA Semifinals

The No. 2 Harvard women’s rugby team (6-2, 6-1 NIRA) was unable to hold off No. 3 Army (7-2, 4-2 NIRA) in the 2021 National Intercollegiate Rugby Association National Semifinals, drawing its 15s season to a close. West Point returned hungry for vengeance after its recent loss to Harvard in the regular season, and the Crimson’s hope of defending its 2019 NIRA Championship title was ended on Saturday, Nov. 13th at Mignone Field with a final score of 25-17.

Women’s Rugby Takes First Loss of Season to Ivy Rival Dartmouth

Following five fierce wins in its 2021 season, the Harvard women’s rugby team (5-1, Ivy 1-1) suffered its first defeat against Dartmouth (6-0, Ivy 2-0) on Saturday. The Big Green came out strong and fast right off the first whistle and was able to quell all future Crimson momentum in a 45-31 victory.

One week following its first decisive win of the season against Mount Saint Mary’s, the Harvard women’s rugby team returned to Mignone Field on Saturday to face Long Island University. The Crimson dominated the game from start to finish, resulting in a lopsided final score of 109-5.

In its last season, the Crimson (1-0, 0-0 Ivy) took home the NIRA National Championship, but that was over a year and a half ago. Due to the Ivy League’s decision to cancel the 2020-21 rugby season amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Harvard entered the game with newcomers making up almost half the team.
