HARVARD 9, QUINNIPIAC 4
Freshman pitcher Morgan Groom made her first appearance since last Saturday, after missing Sunday’s games due to an illness. She opened the game by retiring the side to hold the Bobcats to a scoreless top of the first inning, and the Crimson took a two-run lead in the bottom of the inning.
Groom ran into trouble in the third, allowing a leadoff homerun to senior first baseman Kortney Kesses and hitting the next batter. Senior shortstop Alex Alba slapped a double to centerfield to bring home the Bobcat’s second run. Although Groom walked the following batter, she induced a long fly to Olson to end the inning.
“[Groom] was out on Sunday, so she was a little rusty, but when she got her pitches working, she was very effective,” Allard said.
Harvard added two runs of its own in the fourth, and capped off the game with a five-run sixth.
Galindo led off with a triple and scored on a throwing error by sophomore right fielder Brittney Cyr. After picking up two outs, Bobcats’ freshman pitcher Nicole Gubellini gave up a walk to Olson and a walk to Lange, bringing in junior reliever Katie Alfiere. Another walk and a triple by sophomore shortstop Emily Gusse rounded out the inning.
Quinnipiac looked to come back in the top of the seventh, scoring a run on three singles. But Harvard sophomore reliever Gabrielle Ruiz got the final outs of the game when senior center fielder Lauren Salgado lined into a double play.
