"He's been ill for some time," Haffrey said. "We're not sure when he'll be back."
Garside himself was unavailable for comment. There is, however, some speculation within Mather House over what ails the fallen superintendent.
"I think he's got cancer," said Anand N. Tejani '96. "I think I read it in the Mather House Messenger."
Mather residents seem to be relatively unaffected by Garside's absence.
"Everything still gets done," said E. Moses Vejil '97.
Many did not even notice that Garside was gone, largely due to the work of Assistant Superintendent Jim Hoey.
