UHS Laboratory May Be Probed

Handling of Bodily Fluids Questioned

While Gravitt said UHS should post the OSHA letter so laboratory workers may see it, the letter had not yet been posted as on 1 p.m. Friday, about 10 days after it had been received.

UHS Assistant Director for Human Resources and Operations Gioiz M. Morongell initially said Friday the OSHA letter would be posted after UHS had prepared its response. But when told that OSHA had already received that response, Morongell said the letter and response would be posted later on Friday or over the weekend.

Interviewed again at the end of the day Friday. Morongell indicated she was not sure if the letter had to be posted and asked The Crimson for Gravitt's phone number.

The current UHS employee said workers in the laboratory were only told about the complaint in a hastily called meeting Friday afternoon. They were instructed in a electronic-mail message not to speak with The Crimson, the employee said.

"Us workers feel there's a big cover up," the employer said. "If you didn't come there and start inquiring, we never would have been told."
