Safety Neil Viserto intercepted a two-point conversion try in the fourth quarter to give Colgate a 21-20 victory over Cornell Saturday at Ithaca, N.Y.
Cornell (0-2) had scored on a 15-yard touchdown pass from reserve quarterback Chip Knapp to Todd Presley with 1:16 remaining on the clock. The Big Red elected to go for the win, but Viserto picked off Knapp's attempted pass.
Colgate (2-1) fell behind, 14-0, in the first quarter, but rallied to score the next three touchdowns. Kenny Gamble--who amassed 151 yards on 33 carries for the afternoon--tallied twice in the second quarter on runs of one and two yards.
An 86-yard pass reception by split end Tim Walsh in the third quarter stretched the visitors' edge to 21-14, setting up the game-ending gamble by Cornell.
