The Toronto Blue 'Jays suffered their first exhibition loss of the year last night when Ron Jackson slammed a two-run homer and led the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-1 victory.
Jackson, a non-roster player, connected off Dennis Lamp with two out in the sixth inning after Terry Pendleton had singled.
Jackson formerly of the California Angels and the Minnesota Twins, is trying to hook on with the Jays this year as a first baseman designated hitter.
Toronto had won its first nine exhibition games.
Less impressive in its early spring training action has been the National League's Canadiean entry, the Montreal Expos.
In other Grapefruit League action Monday night. Mike Laga hit a two run homer and Chris Pittaro had four hits in five at-bats as the Detroit Tigers outlasted the Philadelphia Phillies 8-6.
In daytime exhibition games, Fernando Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Dodgers and John Butcher of the Minnesota Twins hurled impressively.
