In upset fashion, traditional and typical of a 58 year-old rivalry, the Bulldog from New Haven snapped and caught short a fighting Crimson eleven this afternoon. As 55,000 fans were jarred to their feet, the underdog Yale team offset a series of previous defeats in one fell swoop defeating a determined but not yet developed Harvard Varsity Yale 20; Harvard 7.

The Elis left little doubt as to their superiority excelling the favored Crimson in every department. Behind a fast charging line, Burr and Seymour slipped through for frequent gains, but Freddy Burr's passes to Allen Bartholemy made the real difference today. Special Wire to the CRIMSON

First Period Freddy Burr kicked off to the toss winning Harvard eleven and Fran Les ran back to the 32. After a good gain by sprayer he carried again but fumbled, giving Yale a break on Harvard's 38.

Three plays pushed the Eli back to the 45, where they kicked on fourth down. A fast moving Crimson line apparently outrushed the fumbling Elis.

With Harvard receiving the punt, Macdonald ran to the 25, but two ground plays failed and then Harvard fumbled twice, and although recovering both, lost the ball on downs on their own 13. It was Yale's second break on a fumble, but four plays netted no gain and Spreyer intercepted a pass on fourth down, giving the ball to Harvard on the 7.

On the second down, Spreyer prudently kicked from the goal line to Yale's 32 where the Crimson line again broke through to smash all running plays. Yale was forced to kick, and against the wind Seymour booted to Macdonald on the 35-yard line.

Three Harvard plays, including a fake kick a la Statue of Liberty, were stopped cold, and Spreyer again used the wind to good advantage on a fifty-yard punt to Burr.

The kicking duel continued and Burr and Spreyer exchanged quick kicks. Yale got possession on the Blue 40 as the quarter ended.

Second Period

On a series of line smashes, the Elis eaked out the first first-down of the game, crossing midfield to the Harvard 45, and then without a receiver in sight Burr broke through for an 8-yard gain. Off his own right side, Seymour dashed 22 yards to the Harvard 13.

A flat pass from Burr to Bartholemy caught the Harvard secondary napping, and it was Eli's first and four on the four yard line, Gene Levett finally downed the Yale receiver.

A running play failed and then the Burr-Bartholemy combination clicked again with the Blue right end falling over the white line. Howard Kaye came in to kick the point and he did. Yale 7. Harvard 0.

Following Burr's outside kickoff, Torbie Macdonald took the ball from his 35, slanted over tackle, and was finally stopped 25 yards later by the Eli safety man. A first down pass from Torbie to Mac Kinney brought Harvard up to an inch of a first down. Spreyer made that much on Harvard's first down.

Outrunning the Eli front wall, Macdonald swept through his right end for five yards, but the Harvard attack stalled after a 40 yard advance and Yale took the ball on downs on its own 21. Burr's quick kick went over MacDonald's head and went out of bounds on the Harvard 29. Spreyer and Macdonald hit the guards for eight yards. A Yale offside gave Harvard the ball on first down on the 40.

But Macdonald attempting to pass, was bounced for a 7 yard loss.
