On the third down, as a last resort, Baird was sent back to try for a goal from the field. It was blocked and the ball rolled where Cabot secured it.
Harvard punted and Princeton returned, the ball coming to Princeton's 40 yard line. Brewer here tried a place kick from the 40 yard line on his fair catch. But the result was considerably different from that of the Cornell game. The ball went along the ground into the Princeton line, and Brewer after it. This play netted five yards but was not what was intended.
Cabot was given the ball but lost three yards. The next time Brewer was the final recipient after the exchange passes, and he got round through Lea for eight yards. Some more double passing and a couple of rushes at either tackle brought the ball well within the Princeton 25 yard line.
Then Princeton braced and held Harvard for two downs. Fairchild tried for a goal but the kick was blocked and Princeton got the ball.
Princeton not being able to gain, Baird punted to C. Brewer, on Harvard's 30 yard line. Harvard's first play was a fake kick, by which Wrightington gained six yards. Then on a round-the-end play C. Brewer gained round Cochran no less than 25 yards. Up to this time it was the prettiest rush of the day, made by means of straight football. Brewer had practically a clear field, but the ground was so slippery that in making one of his famous quick dodges, he lost his foothold and stumbled. This gave some Princeton men their chance and they tackled him.
Wrightington followed with three yards through the centre, after which Brewer punted out at Princeton's 25 yard line. Baird returned the ball to the middle of the field. Another fake kick, with Fairchild in possession of the ball, netted 20 yards. After an end rush of three yards by Brewer, Fairchild made another poor attempt at a goal from the field, Princeton receiving the ball 10 yards from her goal line.
A punt to the centre of the field was returned by Brewer, after one unsuccessful attempt, to the Princeton five yard line, where the ball was in Princeton's possession at the close of the half.
Harvard had the ball at the beginning of the second half and C. Brewer kicked to Lea. Baird punted for Princeton on the first down but the ball went out of bounds and it was Harvard's ball on Princeton's 40 yard line. Princeton, however, got the ball again on off-side play and Princeton kicked. C. Brewer punted for Harvard and caught a return kick on Harvard's 40 yard line. Princeton broke through twice in succession, and the last time blocked Brewer's kick and secured the ball on Harvard's 30 yard line.
Armstrong made five yards around the left end and time was called while Stevenson took Hallowell's place at left tackle.
Rosengarten made three yards through Stevenson but Harvard then held strongly and got the ball. Fairchild who had been injured was replaced by Dunlop and play was resumed.
After fruitless attempts to advance the ball. Brewer was downed on Harvard's three yard line while attempting to punt on the fourth down and it was Princeton's ball.
Rosengarten then made the first touchdown of the game, being shoved over the line on a wedge play. Suter failed to kick the goal.
Brewer kicked off to Princeton's 20 yard line. Princeton, after trying a fake kick, punted, but Shaw blocked the kick and fell on the ball across Princeton's goal line for Harvard's only touchdown. C. Brewer missed the goal.
Princeton kicked off and Brewer returned the ball the middle of the field.
Princeton failed to gain for two plays but on the third Rosengarten made 15 yards through the left side of Harvard's line.
