The Freshman Crew.

Of these men only two or three have had any previous experience in rowing. The body work of the crew, as a whole, is very good, but the watermanship is still rather ragged.

Bow must be careful to catch up with the boat, and should row longer.

2 - Is too jerky, especially on the shoot and finish.

3 - Must sit up to it better and must not slump.

4 - Doesn't get his shoulders on at all. Has a weak finish.

5 - Rolls over the boat. Reaches badly.

6 - Fails to keep his elbows well in at his side.

7 - Must watch stroke closely. Should get a firmer finish.

Stroke. - Apt to hang.

As a usual thing freshman crews improve wonderfully at New London, and it is to be hoped that '90 will follow the general example. But little is known of the Columbia men, but as was shown in '82 and '84, their crews, though light, are at times remarkably fast.

The race will probably be rowed on the 28th, though nothing definite has been decided.
