The Freshman Crew.

The Freshman crew starts for New London to-day in the one o'clock train. From almost the first of October candidates for the crew have been at work, fifty or more having presented themselves during the year.

There has been no regular coach, although several old 'Varsity oars have been of great help to the men. The work of the crew has been very much like that of all past. Freshman eights; especial attention being given to general gymnasium exercise during the winter.

Towards the end of March, the crew left the machines for the river; beginning work in the light pair-oars. They next used the 'Varsity barge and finally a few weeks before the class races they changed it for their new Water's shell. In the class races the Freshmen came in third. Considering the fact that their captain was unable to row, and that several accidents occurred during the race, this was doing remarkably well.

Since that time the men have been coached almost daily by Brooks, '87, both from the launch and from the coxswain's seat.
