- A portrait of Captain Cook has been presented to the University Boat Club.
- Professor G. W. Sumner spent his Christmas vacation delivering lectures on Free Trade, in Illinois.
- An attempt is being made by Professor Blake and prominent citizens of New Haven, to establish a museum of art in the old State House.
- The Art School has recently received Probst's "Portrait Study," a painting sent by Austria to Philadelphia, where it obtained a prize; also, some autotypes of Michael Angelo's frescos in the Sistine Chapel, a copy of the "Wrestlers" from a Florence gallery, and a collection of casts from the principal statues and busts in the Vatican have been added to the school's collection. Two prizes of $50 each, and two of $100 each, are annually given for the best specimens of drawing and painting by the students.
Amherst. - Only contributors are eligible to the editorial board of the Student.
- Seniors are excused from taking part in the winter gymnasium exhibition.
- During President Seelye's absence, Professor Tyler will discharge the duties of President.
- The library committee has appropriated $600 to the purchase of books, to be apportioned to the different departments, each professor being allowed $50 worth. The library expends about $250 annually for periodicals. This year the income of the library is $2,000, the income from the Gilbert fund of $10,000 having now become available.
Brown. - The new catalogue shows 251 students.
- The new library building is nearly completed, and will contain 150,000 volumes.
- The examination for advanced standing has given place to one for delinquents in college studies.
- The requirements for admission have been raised in Greek, Latin, and Mathematics; and French has been added to the work of the Freshman year.
