Harvard Closes Out the First Half of the Season with Up-and-Down Weekend

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, Harvard women’s ice hockey played three games, but was unable to come out of the weekend with any points. In its first game, the Crimson took a trip up to Durham, N.H., where it faced the New Hampshire Wildcats (7-7-1). With Harvard unable to find the back of the net, the Wildcats pulled away with a 3-0 win, having scored a goal in each period. The Wildcats’ Brooke Hammer had an impressive performance, putting up three points with two goals and an assist.

‘All of Us are Freshmen’: Young Harvard Women's Ice Hockey Squad Gets Off to Rocky Start

When the whistle blew at the end of the first period on Saturday, it looked as if Harvard women’s ice hockey (0-3-0, 0-3-0 ECAC) was on the way to its first win of the season. The Crimson lead 3-0 over Rochester Polytechnic Institute (6-1-3, 2-0-0) going into the 2nd period. Led by senior captain Shannon Hollands, who had a goal and assist in the first period, they played aggressive and tactical hockey in the first period. However, the rest of the game was a different story, as the Engineers battled back to force overtime and deliver a 5-4 loss to the hopeful Harvard women.

In a rematch of the 2022 Beanpot Championship Final, the Harvard women's ice hockey (7-15-3, 6-10-3 ECAC) team traversed the Charles River to take on Boston College (17-12-1, 14-10-0 HEA) in the opening round of the 2023 Beanpot. Even with the two teams trending in opposite directions record-wise, both coaches recognized the heightened importance that comes with a Beanpot match.
