Snapchat darkened an already stormy Tuesday by rolling out a new update and shattering our trust in the app…seriously, is C’est Bon the only thing we can count on anymore?
Here is what you should know about the update:
The new Snapchat is not optimal for stalking. No longer can you scroll through your whole friends list, pausing to check out who everyone’s best friends are (a very revealing activity), and their snap score. This feature was not only a great time waster, but also a low key way to keep tabs on others. Also, it definitely created added pressure to snapchat (or not to snapchat) certain people.
While the above might have seemed the most significant change, the Snapchat update was supposed to be about the new Discover feature. Media and entertainment companies like CNN, ESPN, Cosmopolitan, and Yahoo News have what is basically a more complicated version of Snapchat stories, with articles and video links for you to click through. It’s hard to imagine why anyone would turn to Snapchat in order to keep up with world news and celebrity gossip, but we’ll see. It was difficult to navigate, so I ended up stuck on a CNN interview with a man who once dropped acid with Steve Jobs.
