Music festivals offer a creative space for people from all over to embrace art and culture. Celebrities and normal people alike aim to have the most eye-catching and relevant outfit. Many times, the concert-goers achieve this goal, but many times, they fail in dramatic fashion. Read on for a list of the best and worst celebrity looks from Coachella.

Best

Clairo

Clairo looked graceful in a sheer, lace Clever Disguises shirt, asymmetrically draped over a pink All-In skirt with a satin Dior bra underneath. She perfectly matched gothic lace with coquette, polka-dotted pink, which ultimately culminated in a delicate and airy look that corresponded with the lightness of many of her songs.

Charli DAmelio

Charli D’Amelio continued to make waves with her Coachella outfit this year after her sheer dress went viral on TikTok last year. Again, D’Amelio opted for the sheer look — and with all of the fringe and bangles, as Kendall Jenner might say, “This was Coachella 2016.” She looked stunning in a way that felt reminiscent of the years when Coachella was arguably at its height.

Addison Rae

Addison Rae performed in an ethereal sheer Chloé dress. Her pink underwear revealed the release date of her debut album, “Addison” — a cheeky marketing strategy that sent many fans into a frenzy. During her guest appearance on stage with Arca, seemingly inspired by Juicy Couture, Rae excitedly turned around to reveal an eye-catching “June 6” on the back. The dress struck a balance between simplicity and extravagance, and her angelic essence was contrasted with Arca’s dark leather gothic look.

Cynthia Erivo

Cynthio Erivo’s outfit was almost as powerful as her voice as she took the stage at Coachella. Although a tad over-the-top, her satin and lace Zimmermann dress dramatically draped over her body and blew in the wind in a beautiful way. Her thigh-high Christian Louboutin boots completed this memorable outfit. The black satin paired with white lace was a bold choice, but ultimately paid off as it contributed to a gothic yet intricate aura.

Worst

Benson Boone

It seems as if we’ll never be able to tear Benson Boone from a flared pant look. Wearing a custom Dolce & Gabbana two-piece outfit reminiscent of Freddie Mercury’s iconic looks, Boone ended up looking more like he was performing in a marching band — an extremely dissonant energy from both Boone’s discography and the overall Coachella environment. Aiming to be iconic, Boone unfortunately landed on tacky.

Kendall Jenner

Based on her Coachella outfit, it seems as if Jenner is going the chic route this year — not a style commonly associated with Coachella. An unadorned sandy dress from Tove, while elegant, is boring and unimaginative compared to the many whimsical outfits worn by other stars.

Julia Fox

On the flip side, Julia Fox was going for anything but chic and elegant. It’s easy to appreciate the direction of the futuristic and daring fashion piece — the nude leather covering most of her upper body and almost none of her lower body is definitely a statement. However, the outfit doesn’t seem to work visually, and it also isn’t entirely functional clothing to wear to a concert. The desert heat is unforgiving, and a stiff leather outfit may not be conducive to all of the dancing that is encouraged in a festival.

Honorable Mentions

T-Pain

T-Pain’s outfit speaks for itself. Looking somewhere between Captain Jack Sparrow and Willy Wonka, T-Pain likely inspired many in the crowd to be authentically themselves. This is definitely an out-of-left-field outfit choice for T-Pain, as the hip-hop genre is not usually paired with steampunk fashion. The choice was not necessarily fashionable, but nor was it a bad look.

Timothée Chalamet

Timothée Chalamet’s take on Coachella was a breath of fresh air — functional and reliable is a perfect way to dress for a music festival. After all, you’re there for the music. However, while this look may be something most non-celebrities are expected to wear, the public expects — or at least hopes — that a movie star like Chalamet would try to look a bit more innovative and stylish.

Bernie Sanders

Bernie Sanders can certainly add fashion icon to his list of accomplishments. He introduced Clairo in his signature blue jacket and black slacks. Very stately. Very demure. He was able to get his message across while still looking fashionable. No further explanation needed.
