A 27-year-old suffered minor injuries after a motor vehicle struck them and fled the scene near the Harvard Kennedy School on Thursday night, according to the Massachusetts State Police.

Harvard University Police Department officers first responded to the incident on Memorial Drive and JFK Street after Cambridge and Somerville police reported the collision.

The victim was transported to Mount Auburn Hospital with minor injuries. The crash and the location of the vehicle are currently under investigation by Troopers from the State Police Boston Barracks.

HUPD logs initially identified the victim as a cyclist, but the Massachusetts State Police described the 27-year-old victim as a pedestrian in a statement on Monday.

In response to a request for comment on Sunday, HUPD spokesperson Steven G. Catalano said the incident is under the jurisdiction of the Massachusetts State Police.

Thursday’s hit-and-run is the latest incident in Cambridge to make headlines after two cyclists died over the summer from injuries suffered in collisions with box trucks.

In June, a Florida woman died after colliding with a truck while riding her bike on the intersection of DeWolfe and Mount Auburn Streets. Two weeks later, a 24-year-old biker suffered a fatal collision with a truck near Kendall Square.

The string of crashes has added fuel to ongoing debates over bike safety and bike lanes throughout Cambridge. The Cambridge City Council is set to discuss truck safety at a public hearing Monday afternoon.
