Reynolds, a first-team All-Ivy Leaguer in each of the past two seasons, led Harvard in hits and RBI in 2012 and batted .333 over the course of his four years in Cambridge. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native will now get to remain on the East Coast with the Mets as he begins his professional career.
“I’m really excited,” Reynolds said. “They’re a hot team right now battling in the NL East for first. They seem like a great organization.... Everyone seemed like really quality people.”
In the Mets' farm system, the utilityman will be joining Princeton’s Matt Bowman, who was drafted by New York in the 13th round. In pre-draft tryouts with the club, Reynolds had the opportunity to catch Bowman, his former Ivy League rival who could soon be his teammate.
“It was neat to see [Bowman] get drafted,” Reynolds said. “I’ve played against him a few times, so now I’m excited to play with him.”
On the whole, the Crimson’s three 2012 selections tied it with Yale for the most of any Ancient Eight school.
“It’s amazingly cool,” Reynolds said. “I’m so happy to be drafted and I’m excited to get a professional career going.”
“I’m so happy for my other teammates,” Suter added. “There’s no words to describe this. It’s a dream come true.”
