The new California-bred first-years are enjoying their clout.

Rolando Flores ’07 of Burbank, Calif., said it felt good to be from a well-represented state, and that the adjustment to the East Coast had been an easy process.

But despite his California pride, Flores downplayed the importance of origin. “You’re all here for the same reason. At first, people say ‘I’m from here, I’m from here,’ but then everybody kind of groups together,” he said.
