Black Guide to Harvard Debuts

It includes a segment entitled “The Top Ten Organizations that Need More Black People,” listing major campus organizations such as the Institute of Politics, the yearbook and The Crimson.

The book opens with a five-page dedication to W.E.B. DuBois, the first black student to gain a doctorate from Harvard. The dedication urges current students to follow in the footsteps of DuBois, and join the fight for increased the diversity of the curriculum and the faculty.

The Guide also pokes fun at the current experience of being a black student at Harvard.

A list of the “Top 10 Stupidest Things Said to Black Women at Harvard” includes “I know your struggle. I read ‘Beloved’” and “Why don’t you wash your hair?”

The book even directs black students to a variety of beauty salons where female students can get everything from a press and curl to a “bouncy and bougie” style.

The first 1,000 copies of the guide will be distributed to students in dining halls and in BSA meetings.
