House Access Extension Clears Hurdle

Masters’ vote is next step for first-year keycard access proposal

Eliot House Master Lino Pertile, who was at the CHL meeting, said he would support the resolution.

Winthrop House Master Paul D. Hanson said that he wants to talk with Dean of Freshmen Elizabeth Studley Nathans and the other masters before he decides whether he will support the trial period.

Mahan, who is chair of the Undergraduate Council’s Student Affairs Committee, said the Freshman Dean’s Office—not the masters—had opposed the proposal in the past.

Nathans could not be reached for comment.

Some of the House masters had not heard about the CHL meeting as of last night and did not know what their position on the issue would be.

“I haven’t heard the discussion,” said Cabot House Master James H. Ware. “This is the first moment I’ve heard about it, that it’s even on the agenda.”
