Technology Mix-up Strikes Nerves

“The accounts were never actually closed, and there was no interruption of service,” Davis said.

“A staff member noticed the problem when she got the e-mail herself at 7:45. So by 9:20 we had already sent them a recension message,” he said.

By October, all of Harvard’s 15,000 employees will be included in the new payroll system, according to Merry D. Toubourg, director of communications for Harvard’s Human Resources Project.

“There is every expectation that there will be bumps,” Toubourg said. “But so far things have been going well. People have been working around the clock here to work out everything.”

Toubourg added that this e-mail confusion was “a very minor event in the scheme of things.”
