Recent Graduate Dies in Africa

Joshua B. Ramsey ’99-’01 known as laid back, friendly

He also started bartending at Harvard Square restaurant T.G.I. Friday’s, where friends could depend on him to “take care of us a little,” in the words of his friend and teammate, Harold R. Carey ’99.

Ramsey was also known for a sharp, yet personal dressing style.

“He was always a little more stylish than the rest of us,” Eitzmann said.

His usual attire was a pair of “board shorts,” flip flops and a baseball cap.

“You always knew Josh was home when his baseball cap was soaking in the sink,” said his former suitemate Yankoff.

He would wear the hat to bed wet so that it would form to his head properly and look better, Yankoff said.

Walsh recalled Ramsey’s physical stature, calling him a “big, strappin’ kid.”

“It seemed like nothing could harm him—a real physical specimen.”

A memorial service was held on June 15 at Ramsey’s high school in Tuscon, Ariz.

Ramsey’s three former girlfriends—one from St. Gregory’s high school, and two from college—all spoke one after another at the memorial service.

“The first one said, ‘Josh was my first love,’ and then after, the second said, ‘Josh was my first love.’ So then, finally, the third one laughed and said, ‘Well, I guess I’m part of a trend, because Josh was my first love,’” according to Eitzmann.

“It’s amazing how many people he touched,” Eitzmann said.
