Summers’ advisory committee on the search includes a number of plausible contenders for the dean’s post. These include successful department chairs Leverett Professor of Mathematics Benedict H. Gross, Professor of Psychology Daniel L. Schacter and Professor of Sociology Mary C. Waters, as well as Jorge I. Dominguez, director of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs.
Mallinckrodt Professor of the History of Science and of Physics Peter L. Galison ’77, Professor of Sociology Peter V. Marsden and Reischauer Professor of Japanese Politics Susan J. Pharr are also said to be plausible candidates.
Summers has been consulting extensively since Knowles announced his resignation Feb. 12.
Summers last met with the advisory committee March 22 and will meet with the Educational Policy Committee later this week.
