“It’s a lot cheaper to race in a league, and although we receive funding each year from the club sport office, it won’t be enough to cover all our costs, so we have to be creative about fundraising,” Sully said.
There are a handful of Harvard alumni in the car racing and manufacturing industries.
They include the head designer of the Jaguar S-Type and Skip Barber, a famous Formula One racer and teacher of Nascar stars like Jeff Gordon, according to Sully.
He said he hopes they may finance races and speak at club events.
The club is also applying for an Undergraduate Council grant to host speakers and help pay for racing.
Down the road, many in the club say they hope to see it become more entrenched in College life.
“Someday I’d love to see the club with its own track across the river, its own set of go-karts and an exciting bill of famous racers coming to speak every year,” Babikov said.
