Freshman Jake McKenna shut out the Irish for the rest of the frame, and Harvard took a 2-1 lead into the second period.
The Crimson would not score in the second frame, however, and three Notre Dame goals midway through the quarter gave the Irish a 4-2 lead at the half.
Notre Dame senior attackman Tom Glatzel took over at the beginning of the third quarter, scoring two goals in the span of one minute to extend the Irish lead to four. He then assisted on senior Jon Harvey’s goal at the 7:12 mark of the period to put the Irish up, 7-2.
But Harvard would respond just seconds later when freshman midfielder Alex Vap scored on pass from Primm, his third assist of the day.
The two teams then traded goals, with Harvey scoring again for the Irish and Harvard getting a goal from co-captain Dana Sprong.
Sprong’s goal pulled the Crimson to within four, but again, Glatzel would take control for the Irish.
Glatzel scored three straight to close the frame and Notre Dame took an 11-4 lead going into the final quarter.
