The Great God Brown is certainly the greatest achievement students (albeit with professional direction) have brought to the Mainstage in my time here. Were it not for the stiff competition posed by the phenomenal production of Twelfth Night in the Ex a few weeks back, it would be uncontested as the most fully impressive and moving Harvard theatrical experience of the year. The effect of The Great God Brown on undergraduate theater will be interesting to watch over the coming semesters. It raises the bar for student theater so high that it is likely to be a while before another show approaches its level of utter excellence. However, The Great God Brown proves that it can be done, that the HRDC is capable of producing not only a voluminous quantity of work, but also some of tremendous quality.
The gauntlet has been thrown. And I, for one, eagerly await any show willing to take up the challenge.
