E-mail Users Receive Quota Update

Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) computer accounts have been displaying a new line when users log on lately, a suggestion from Harvard Arts and Sciences Computer Services' (HASCS) to keep in mind the limits set on account storage space.

Each student is allotted 50 megabytes of space on the Harvard server, FAS computer officials say.

If a student exceeds that quota, there is a grace period of 14 days when 50 more megabytes are temporarily available. During these two weeks, e-mail reminders are sent to students so that no important data is lost.

However, if students find that 50 megabytes are not sufficient, HASCS recommends they send an e-mail to help@fas.harvard.edu. An additional 50 megabytes are available upon request. If a student asks for more than 100 megabytes, then HASCS will require an explanation.
