This year there has been controversy surrounding students who were thought to be gang members and were searched without the knowledge of their parents.
School reorganization will also be on the School Committee's agenda, Koocher said.
"One big issue for the School Committee race include whether and which schools should be reorganized and combined in order to save space," he said.
Koocher said some schools may be combined so that students in districts that were formerly separate will now interact.
"There are schools with historically lower income families represented in minority neighborhoods. Will these schools and their constituents have an opportunity to plan or will they be disenfranchised?" Koocher said.
