I do understand some of Wisse's objections to the rally, including that "it is uncommonly rude to speak when someone else has the floor." She may be "ashamed" of the protesters, but I am ashamed, too. I am ashamed to be affiliated with a university which consistently fails to listen to its students. I think that the cries on Tuesday were born of frustration, not disrespect. Rape is a terrifying crime, and that a world-renowned university unequipped to handle it is an embarrassment.
We should remember that the protesters were trying to gain support for reforms which go beyond this specific case--such as a rape crisis center and rape education for first-years. It is a shame that their rally did not fit into Wisse's agenda.
