"Houses continue to seek to be a place where students residential and academic lives coexist," he said. "I'd hate to think they were incompatible."
Students, faculty and Deans suggested ways the advising system could be improved.
"There should be a higher premium on time and involvement over continuity," said Benjamin A. Rahn '99, a student member Lewis said the Committee on Advising andCounseling would be getting the departmentstogether to talk about basic advising, organizinga meeting of senior tutors in the spring andworking with large departments "I'd like to find a way to work with some ofthe larger departments because if you work with alarge department you affect more students," Lewissaid. Todd suggested that tenured, senior facultybecome more involved in head tutor positions. "What we seem to be lacking is someone who istaking responsibility," Todd said. The issue of advising will go before the nextmeeting of the Faculty Council. "As dreary as some of these numbers [in thesurvey results] are I look at them with some cheerbecause there are some departments that aremeeting most of the minimum requirements well,"Lewis said
