Three Students Awarded Rhodes

According to Gerson, this year's recipients arefrom the broadest representation of schools inrecent history. Five institutions had their firstscholars named.

Finer said it was "not something I everexpected or even thought about the possibility ofuntil very recently."

Lisa Clayton Robinson, Winthrop House'sfellowships tutor, downplayed her role inencouraging Finer's application.

"Once he decided to apply I read hisapplications, but the accomplishment is all aboutJon," Robinson said. "He's a fabulous student anda great person."

Alvin B. Tillery, assistant senior tutor inAdams House, said he was "more than ecstatic" forNarayan and had nothing but praise for hisaccomplishment.

"I've known Navin since he was a second yearstudent, and I have known that he would be anexcellent candidate," Tillery said. "He is a verytalented young man, his community service effortshave been Herculean and he is one of the sincereststudents I've met in my life."

Kapur, who is traveling in Eastern Europe, wasunavailable for comment.

Antwaun L. Smith, a graduate of the Universityof Missouri who is currently pursuing a Ph.D. inChinese studies at the Graduate School of Arts andSciences, also received the Rhodes.

Harvard students who are Canadian citizens areeligible to receive the Canadian Rhodes. Theserecipients will be announced in the next fewweeks
