Baseball Goes To NCAA Finals

Jamieson worked a 1-2 count to designated hitter David Young, then got the senior to ground out to second to end the game.

Harvard had added its insurance with a run in the fifth and one in the eighth. With runners on first and third and no outs in the fifth, junior Brian Ralph singled to center to bring in Harvard's third run of the game. The Crimson scored in the eighth on an RBI single by junior Brett Vankoski.

Forst paced the team with a 3-for-3 performance.

"That's the beauty of this game, when a kid like Forst comes back, smacks the ball around and plays [good] defense," said Walsh after the game, still wet from his Gatorade bath. "That's what coaching's all about, to see something like that happen. It even goes beyond wins and losses."

The team will learn this afternoon which of eight regional sites it will journey to for a six-team, double-elimination mini-tournament from May 22-25. The winners of the regionals travel to Omaha for the College World Series.

The Crimson faces an uphill climb in the tournament, as it will undoubtedly face some of the toughest teams the nation has to offer.

Harvard has a mixed record against ranked teams, losing to Miami--the current No. 3--twice over Spring Break but coming back to beat the Hurricanes in the third game between the two teams. Harvard also avenged its Beanpot loss to No. 19 UMass with an 11-4 trouncing earlier this month.

"We're not going to go down there and concede to the other team," Albers said. "We have players who are just as good as theirs, if not better. I think [teams] are going to be surprised by us, the same way we surprised Miami."

For now, Harvard can bask in the glow of its first tournament berth in 13 years. For now, Harvard gets to spend a week learning how to dance-and pass their finals.

"I've got three exams in the next 24 hours," Jamieson said after the win. "But I couldn't care less about finals. Baseball is it."
