Last year, 41 percent of those ultimately admitted to the class of 2001 were taken early, admissions office statistics show.

This year, 22 percent of those admitted early are Asian Americans, and nearly 5 percent are Africans Americans.
Forty-five percent of those admitted so far this year are women, compared with just under 47 percent of those admitted under both early and regular admissions to the class of 2001.
The admissions office did not yet have statistics available on the geographic diversity of those admitted but said in a press release that there appear to have been no changes from last year.
Students are required to notify Harvard by May I if they decide to enroll.
