Bundy was also a prolific author, writing more than 20 books in the course of his lifetime.

"Let me put my whole proposition in one sentence. I believe in the dignity of the individual, in government by law, in respect for the truth and in a good God; those beliefs are worth my life, and more; they are not shared by Adolf Hitler," Bundy wrote in a 1940 anthology, Zero Hour.

At the time of his death, Bundy was a resident of Manchester-by-the-Sea, a north Boston suburb. He married Mary Buckminster Lothrop, associate dean of admissions at Radcliffe, in 1950.

The couple had four sons, Stephen, Andrew, William and James.

Funeral arrangements and the cause of death were not available at press time.
