However, Harvard did not stop playing. Throughout the last 10 minutes of the game, the Crimson players realized that they had not had a serious scoring chance in over a week, a fact that made them determined to do something productive offensively.
"We basically wanted some shots on net," freshman center forward Judy Collins said. "In the last five minutes it was like maybe we would score, [but we didn't]."
Caples concurred.
"I don't think we were demoralized [after the second goal]--it was just, 'enough bad goals, we have to put one in."
Even though the Crimson didn't score, it did do well in the end of the game, forcing UConn to take a timeout with about four minutes left.
That will not always be enough, however, to keep Harvard's spirits up. The team knows that in tomorrow's home game against Providence, it needs to get the ball in the net early and set the tempo. If the Crimson's shot totals keep on matching E.T.'s fingers, there won't be very many wins.
"We need to win at home and some on the road," Caples said. "We need to have momentum instead of digging out of a hole." First Half UC--Brady 23:11. Second Half UC--Brady 39:11. Saves: Har--Michelin 16; UC--Betts 2.
