"I see absolutely no reason to have the provost watch CNN. He can videotape it on his own television," she said. "This entire society depends far too much on CNN."
And Robert J. LaTremouille, a local political commentator, said Harvard's decision will benefit Cambridge's tourism industy.
A lot of people in the neighborhood are deeply concerned with keeping Cambridge looking like historical Cambridge," he said. "If it looks less historical, it would certainly drive away tourists."
For the time being administrators will have to deal with not having access to cable television, Groden said.
But she said she expects to resolve the problem soon.
"I think at some point cable is going to be available through one's telephone lines." she said.
