Ivy Rivalries Heat Up This Weekend for M. Hockey

Nevertheless, Harvard does not expect its two most hated rivals to simply roll over and concede the weekend's contests.

"Both teams always give us good games," said Konik. "We know we'll have to play well to win."

Harvard's antagonism toward Yale and Princeton will also be a significant factor.

"There are certainly added emotional elements to this weekend's games." Tomassoni said. "Our rivalries with Yale and Princeton have had many years to develop, and both teams will be sky-high to play us."

If the Crimson are able to ride this emotional tide to victory, the consequences will supersede mere record improvements or bragging rights.

Indeed, Harvard points to this weekend as a golden opportunity to send an important message to the rest of the ECAC.

"It's very important for us to establish home-ice dominance this season," Tomassoni said.

"Bright is our rink, and, unlike last year, we need to show opposing teams that it will be extremely difficult for them to play here."

Undoubtedly, the Crimson will make every effort to ensure that this message is delivered.
