Official Denied Existence of Govt. Radiation Experiments

Charles Dyer, a subject of one of the experiments and a task force member, appeared to question some of the report's findings. Dyer said he thought it was possible that test subjects had suffered damages to health.

Regardless of Misilo's statement, the report recommends that "all participants...should be compensated for any and all damage incurred as a result of the studies," such as money for medical diagnoses and treatments.

A current representative concurs that, no matter what Thompson said, the experiments definitely took place.

According to Rep. Edward Markey (D-Mass). the AEC was injecting plutonium in unwitting subjects until 1947, and sanctioned the Massachusetts tests by 1949.

"The AEC claim in 1950 that it had never sponsored human experimental research was, quite simply, a lie," Markey said.

In 1986, Markey released a congressional report detailing radiation experiments on nearly 700 people.
