Fleeing a Crime Scene? Beware the Bike Police

"It's [better for] community involvement,"Pasquarello says. "We want officers to blend inwith the community."

"They're more user friendly," he adds. "Somepeople seem to be intimidated by officers in carswith flashing lights."

The cops will don official police garb, in theform of short-sleeved shirts and Bermuda shorts,and will sit atop marked bicycles.

The bicycle-riding police, all drawn fromwithin the Cambridge police force, completed atwo-week training session recently.

Depending on the time and day, four or six ofthe cops will be on duty, Pasquarello says. Theywill be sent out in pairs.

And they'll be all over Cambridge, he added.
