Recognizing the relatively new threat of Jewish terrorism, the army has called for the arrest of five known leaders of the extremist Kach party to which Goldstein belonged and the disarming of others. Several Cabinet members have even proposed banning Kach altogether and treating it as a terrorist organization, like Hamas or Islamic Jihad.(Kach was already barred from the government in 1988 for being "racist and undemocratic.)
Even more significantly, Cabinet members have proposed amending Israel's Law of Return--which gives every Jew the right to become a citizen immediately upon arrival in Israel--to exclude members of Kach and others such groups.
Such a step would be tantamount to stripping Kach members of their fundamental rights as Jews. Clearly, the Israeli people do not tolerate extremism and terrorism, and are willing to compromise even the principles of terrorists like Goldstein from their midst.
It is upsetting that the Harvard Islamic Society claims that "the Islamic faith prohibits terrorism," while simultaneously charging that the Jewish faith and Israeli government condone the slaughter of innocent people. This is a blatant falsehood.
Palestinian must not seek to blame all of Israel for the crimes of one man, but must instead continue to work for peace, just as Israel continue to maintain its course in the face of numerous Palestinian terrorist attacks.
Slandering Judaism and the Israelis can only cause more harm.
