B-School Students Oppose New Calendar

"The proposal allows students to design their own career path," one student said.

Another, however, said the proposal makes the curriculum too liberating for a proper education.

Summer job experiences are crucial for the appreciation of the second year of business school, she held, "but a lot of students, including me, would be penny-wise and pound-foolish and decide to go through the MBA in 16 months."

Students also questioned the effect this staggered graduation rate would have on recruiting.

"Although recruiters say they would work with us, would they really ever say otherwise?" one second-year student told the Harbus News.

"Having graduating students [at various times of the year] is more consistent with the way jobs emerge in the entrepeneurial community," Schlesinger countered.

This will "enhance the opportunity of a student for a broader array of job opportunities," he said. "The rest of the world operates 12 months a year."

A third and final faculty vote to ratify the specifics of the new calendar is expected to take place in the next several months
