Construction Plan Worries Residents

Relationship with City Essential

And Harvard administrators say maintaining a good relationship with the city is essential when planning an extension of Harvard facilities in Cambridge.

"We [should] walk forward with the city, not march against them," Dean of the Faculty Jeremy R. Knowles said last week.

Many of Harvard's neighbors, however, still worry about the consequences of Harvard's construction.

Robert LaTremouille, a Franklin Street resident who has worked with many neighborhood groups over zoning issues, said he feels Harvard has acted illegally by not providing adequate parking for Sanders Theatre.

"Harvard has already greatly increased the use of the auditorium in Memorial Hall and hasn't provided the parking required," LaTremouille said.

According to Cambridge zoning ordinances, Harvard is required to provide additional parking if it expands the use of existing structures where parking is provided
