"The race was not well steered on my part and it allowed Northeastern to move up a little simply because they had a shorter course than us," Weiden said.
Despite all these obstacles, the Crimson never relinquished the lead to Northeastern and squeezed out an important victory.
"The boat showed a lot of determination to stay ahead all the way," Weiden said.
The JV
The junior varsity race also followed the take-a-nice-lead-and-see-if-they-can-catch-up pattern.
"We definitely didn't row to our potential," sophomore Scott Henderson said. "I think we got a little satisfied after we took an early lead."
Letdowns aside, however, the second boat remained upbeat.
"It definitely wasn't our best race, but we were psyched to win because we didn't know how fast Northeastern would be," Henderson said.
Frosh
The freshmen were pleased with their strong showing Saturday on the Charles.
"It was probably our best race yet," said freshman Terran Senftleben. "It seems to be flowing a bit better than it had been before."
Among the keys to the freshmen's success has been a crucial lineup change made two weeks ago. Scott McMullin moved to the stroke position replaced Olympian Sverke Lorden, who moved to the seventh seat.
"Switching our stroke has made a bit of a difference," Senftleben said. "We've been able to get our stroke rating up and the sway in the boat was a lot better."
