For the Crimson, the season turned out to be a year in which to learn--and lose.

"We didn't want to make it a rebuilding year, but clearly, that's what ended up happening," Colligan said.

"There were some turning points in the season," Belisle said. "But something always went wrong to stop us."

And what of next year? Is this last win an omen for things to come in 1993?

Although the Crimson loses Co-Captains Rachel Burke and Laura Davies, players and coaches agree that next year, Harvard will return to the form that drove it to an Ivy title in 1991 and that has made the it a top-twenty team for the past few years.

"Everyone has a right to be optimistic for next year," Caples said. "We'll be going from very young to old. We'll have four seniors as a solid base."

Wait. Hold on. Four, as in the same number of starting seniors as the Crimson had in 1991. Is that a sign?

"We're really going to have a strong season next year," Belisle said. "People will be surprised."

What a pleasant surprise that would be indeed.
