At Monday's meeting, the two committees alsoconsidered putting controversial issues likeROTC's return before a binding student referendum. But most members in attendance said that such amove would be unnecessary because the council hadalready declared the original resolutionunconstitutional.
Before the council gets a chance to vote ontabling the ROTC issue, they will meet to discussa more immediate concern--the Suzanne Vega concertscheduled at Bright Center this Saturday night.
At yesterday's meeting, Lee called for an"emergency" meeting of the council, scheduled fortonight, in order to assign publicity andtechnical duties for the upcoming event.
Lee said that the ROTC debate had focusedattention away from the Vega concert, which thecouncil secured after an entire semester of secretnegotiations.
The ROTC issue "had definitely taken away someof the momentum," from the Vega concert, Lee said."We just have to get our asses in gear," he said.
Lee said tickets sales have been going"moderately well," and that several hundred havebeen sold at Holyoke Center. Tickets have alsobeen sold by professional distributors throughoutthe Boston area, he said.
